The Wheeling Hospital family practice residency is an accredited training program for post-graduate training in primary care, and as such, complies with the requirements set forth in the Essentials of Accredited Residencies in Graduate Medical Education. The scope of resident duties falls within their level of training and competence. Residents are not members of the medical staff and have no admitting privileges. While on rotations, residents work under the supervision of the attending physician to whom the patient is admitted. The attending physician must be a licensed independent practitioner (LIP) and hold clinical privileges that reflect the patient care responsibilities given to the resident.
