About The Position

The Children's Home of Wyoming Conference partners with children, families and communities throughout New York State to inspire hope, develop skills and cultivate healthy relationships for positive futures. $20-22 an hour Schedule - Part Time, usually 1-6pm, occasional weekend flexibility based on family need Position Summary: The Family Life Specialist will provide support and resources for the growth and development of each child through instructing, counseling, and directing them in matters of personal conduct, hygiene, appearance, social skills, school routines, and work habits. The Family Life Specialist should foster the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of each child. The FLS will also provide safe and responsible transportation for youth and family members (VIPs) and other Children's Home affiliates as required by program expectations while maintaining safe and appropriate behaviors for all passengers. The Family Life Specialist will prepare youngsters for successful living within societal norms toward improving family relationships, reunification with family, or independent living.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 3 years of experience with a high school diploma required
  • Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 1 year of experience plus a college degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide for the safety and well-being of children in care through knowledge and supervision of their whereabouts and the judicious use of discipline and therapeutic crisis intervention.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationship with the children and their families that are responsive to their needs and that are in accordance with the established treatment plan/UCR.
  • Promote the growth of parent-child relationships as indicated by that plan, as well as the agency's philosophy of family-centered practice.
  • Assure the health and safety of children in care by the timely identification and effective communication of all behavioral, emotional or medical needs.
  • Confer regularly with the Director, Case Planners, foster parents, and primary workers as needed on each child's and family's individual and group progress.
  • Attend all required trainings, staff meetings and supervision.
