Family Law Attorney
About The Position
Our law group is growing, and we are looking for a sharp family attorney who will zealously represent clients in all areas of family law. You’ll assist individuals in a variety of situations, such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support. The prime candidate will have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Requirements
- Candidate must have a license to practice law in either West Virginia or Ohio and be willing to obtain the other state licensure upon being offered employment
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Empathy for clients with a genuine desire to improve their lives
- Juris Doctor Degree
- Great negotiation skills
- Willingness to travel to other areas of the state for hearings and meetings
Nice To Haves
- Prior family law experience is preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
- Represent clients in court proceedings as needed
- Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
- Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action
- Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials
- Direct and supervise the work of support staff
- Draft pleadings and orders
- Prepare equitable distribution charts
- Conduct monthly file review meetings
- Monitor retainer balances and communicate replenishment needs to the billing specialist
- Communicate with the client to understand their goal and develop a corresponding strategy to meet those goals
- Represent clients in appeals when necessary
