About The Position

Under general direction of the building administrator and with direction from the Accelerated Schools Coach, assists the families of students in accessing community services. Develops a program for increasing family involvement in school activities and assists staff in meeting the needs of all students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or it’s recognized equivalent (GED) and; two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter hours); OR an associate’s degree (or higher); OR a passing score on a state or local assessment.
  • Ability to identify family strengths and plan/advocate around family goals.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and maintain program records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate to students, families, community members from diverse backgrounds, and staff.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with social service agencies.
  • Interest and ability to advocate with and on behalf of low-income diverse families.
  • Ability to use computer for use in the classroom and to maintain program records.
  • Basic telephone and clerical skills.
  • First Aid and CPR card.
  • Completion of fingerprinting and background check.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle with required insurance coverage.
  • Type 2 Driver's License for the transportation of students.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Social Service or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in human services field.
  • Bilingual- SPANISH
  • Training or experience in counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and coordinates the Parent Center; maintains budget, supplies, equipment and schedules; publishes parent bulletin; coordinates activities and communicates with staff, specialists, administrators and parents.
  • Implements family outreach program; develops an effective system for communicating with parents, i.e., telephone contacts, making parents feel welcome at the school and/or home visits.
  • Plans and organizes ongoing training to assist parental involvement in children’s school life.
  • Uses surveys and other means to determine how parents and staff can best serve children.
  • Facilitates parent/family networks.
  • Serves as liaison between families and community social service agencies.
  • Supports PTSA in efforts of fund raising, food drives, clothing bank, etc.
  • Serves on family assistance team or cadre and other committees as required.
  • Consults and works with Student Assistance Team.
  • Collaborates with school discipline committee, counselor and staff.
  • Develops written guidelines to define roles of various members of the educational community to maintain open channels of communication.
  • Maintains program data and statistics; provides reports as requested; maintains a file on the languages spoken by each family and volunteer translators that will assist with family-school communication.
  • Provides clerical support for training programs and information packets.
  • Assists teachers with planning and implementing accelerated learning activities for students in the areas of language arts, reading and math.
  • Assists teachers or prepares learning materials as requested.
  • Assists teachers in the evaluation and assessment of students.
  • May supervise students in playground activities.
  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.
