About The Position

The implementation of Intercept offers a unique opportunity to become immersed in an evidence-based program model to serve youth & their families, as identified through the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P). The Intercept program serves a broad population of youth and families residing in Ocean, Monmouth and Mercer counties, including including those involved with multiple child-serving systems and those at high risk of removal from their families. Specialists carry a small caseload of 5 families at a time.

Requirements

  • Education - Master’s degree in the field of social work, psychology, or related field is preferred or bachelor's degree in social services with one-year related experience in counseling and/or case management is required.
  • Experience - Prior case management and/or counseling experience preferred.
  • License - Valid New Jersey Driver's License in good standing
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable and possess the ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback and willingness to implement new ideas and strategies during session
  • Practices a trauma informed philosophy as demonstrated through behaviors and communications, embracing it as a cultural value.

Responsibilities

  • Family intervention specialists are an advocate for the families in any involved system they are a part of, such as CP&P or CSOC (Children’s System of Care), with the purpose of gathering information specific to intervention development and advocating in the best interest of the child’s long-term stability. Specialists work with DCP&P staff regularly to assist families in successfully addressing needs and strengthening the family system.
  • Family intervention specialists carry a small caseload of 5 families at a time. Specialists provide individualized family sessions in the home & community settings in order to safely maintain the youth in the home. Specialists provide an average of three face-to-face sessions with the family a week, including youth & support system, at the convenience of the family.
  • Family intervention specialists are expected to attend and actively participate in trainings and individual and team supervision and professional development and to follow up and/or implement feedback and recommendations received from the Team Supervisor, Program Director and Licensed Program Expert. Specialists are expected to adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines, including confidentiality and mandated reporting.
  • Schedules for this position are non-traditional, but flexible and based around the family's availability. Since specialists are heavily involved with each family, long hours may be required to respond to families’ needs.  Intercept specialists may be able to work remote, however, will be expected to report in-person for program-specific meetings at their agency.  Specialists must also have their own transportation to use for work purposes. Family intervention specialists are responsible for providing after hours support to families using a rotating on-call schedule and are expected to respond in person during some crisis situations as deemed necessary by their leadership team.
  • Family intervention intercept specialists are not required to provide transportation for families they are serving; however, it may be a need if all other means of transportation support have been exhausted. Specialists may utilize an agency vehicle to provide transportation support.
