About The Position

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. DJJ is currently hiring a Family Engagement Supervisor. This position will increase communication with families, youth, and DJJ staff to cultivate positive relationships, by collaborating with families in goal setting and decision making that addresses their youth's interest, strengths, and needs. Job duties include, but are not limited to: Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of families from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to conduct and interpret family functional assessments. Ability to lead, develop, and coordinate staff and programs. Ability to define problems and assess, organize, and lead complex projects. Ability to analyze related and unrelated situations to draw conclusions and devise innovative solutions, alternatives, and recommendations. Ability to effectively supervise and to provide technical assistance to staff. This position will require extensive travel with some overnight stays and frequent contact with community partners throughout all regions in the Commonwealth.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current theoretical and applied models of family engagement and transition for incarcerated youth.
  • Knowledge of the role of transition-related legislation and policies in the fields of rehabilitation, labor, and civil rights.
  • Knowledge of individual and group therapy practices.
  • Skilled in utilizing formal and informal career interest assessment instruments.
  • Skilled in developing, interpreting, and applying policies and procedures within prescribed limits and parameters.
  • Skilled in developing model systems through interagency collaboration.
  • Skilled in effective oral and written communication.
  • Skilled in using basic computer software programs and database packages as management tools.
  • Certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Nice To Haves

  • Comprehensive knowledge of research-based methods and techniques related family engagement and juvenile reentry services delivery during confinement and in the community.
  • Extensive working knowledge of computer-based applications.
  • Willingness to travel.
