About The Position

The Family Engagement Specialist individual will work to increase and improve parent/family and community involvement in the district and with parental involvement programs in particular the 21st Century program. The primary responsibility is to provide the communication link between the district and the community/campuses on a full-time basis. The Family Engagement Specialist will work with parents and provide information in order to encourage communication with parents/families between the district and the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least five years of working with parents/families and community members
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, schools, community and district office personnel
  • Adherence to the code of ethics of the school district

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred
  • Skills in speaking, writing, and reading a second language predominant in the community is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate adult and family engagement activities in the community and at the 21st CENTURY sites
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate activities involving families of 21st
  • Prepare and plan for school-community relations on a daily basis
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and the parent/families of the school
  • Deliver and distribute information to the business/parent community
  • Attend school and community meetings as required
  • Make personal contact with parents to encourage family engagement
  • Provide information to 21st CENTURY families in order to improve home-school communication
  • Prepare 21st CENTURY student progress reports and meet with parents to discuss strategies to improve student achievement through the after school project
  • Work with the site coordinators/director to investigate issues and participate in conflict resolution between the site and the community
  • Collect data for reporting purposes
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the dept
  • Plan and maintain parent participation report counts for TEA reports
  • Keep informed of and comply with state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions
  • Provide reports as necessary
  • Maintain records of parent attendance in district and site functions
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
  • Participate in meetings and special events as assigned
  • Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
