About The Position

Provides direct supervision and care for children ages 0–12 whose parents are enrolled in the Tule House Residential Treatment program. Offers hands-on guidance and support to parents in selecting developmentally appropriate activities and implementing effective, age-appropriate behavioral interventions. Facilitates Child and Family Team meetings to ensure children’s needs are identified and addressed while parents are actively engaged in residential substance use treatment services.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent degree
  • Must have experience with the process of recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer of these services or as the parent, caregiver or family member of a consumer.
  • Must pass the 80-hour training requirements within 6-months of employment for a Peer Support Specialist through CalMHSA-approved training entity.
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License and have 2 years of driving experience, current auto insurance, and a clean DMV printout (no more than 3 points).
  • Must pass a clear background check with DOJ, CACI, FBI, CCL.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • TB Exam and Physical at the time of employment.
  • Driving is a required function of this position. Employees must use a personal vehicle that meet all agency requirements, including maintaining liability insurance that meets or exceeds state requirements. Employees are responsible for ensuring the timely renewal of their vehicle insurance policies and providing updated documentation to the agency to remain in good standing and compliant with position requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and co-facilitate age-appropriate, engaging groups for parents and children in a daycare-like setting within the residential home environment.
  • Provide education and guidance related to nutrition, safety, and household budgeting.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe, and supportive environment for all residents while modeling positive parenting practices and respectful interactions.
  • Plan, budget, and lead therapeutic and educational activities with approval from the Program Supervisor.
  • Support families with activities and services, including community linkage, transportation coordination, visitation, activities of daily living, education, and life-skills development.
  • Complete parenting plans, facilitate monthly Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, and develop individualized Plans of Care.
  • Provide referrals and warm handoffs to internal and external service providers to support participant progress.
  • Teach functional skills and healthy behaviors that support long-term stability and address factors contributing to entry into substance use residential treatment.
  • Implement and monitor interventions across treatment settings, including in-home and community-based services.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling support to participants as needed.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to mothers regarding healthy lifestyles, personal habits, and effective parenting strategies.
  • Collaborate with and support Treatment Support Staff in the completion of assigned duties.
  • Monitor Outlook 365 and read/respond to agency emails at least once every 24 hours while on shift.
  • Complete required documentation and serve as the primary note-taker as assigned.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including copying, filing, and other office-related errands.
