About The Position

As a Family Care Coordinator Specialist/Training Supervisor , you will directly contribute to LifeLink’s life-saving mission. Primary responsibility is to work within established LifeLink Foundation, OPO, and regulating agency policies and protocols to direct the resources available to evaluate and respond to hospital referrals for the purpose of determining a potential donation. This position performs all of the functions of a Family Care Coordinator (FCC) Specialist and would be responsible for the training of new staff and ongoing competency evaluation and training for current staff members under the direction of the Director, Referral/Family Services Program. This position maintains an ongoing open line of communication with the Manager/Assistant Manager and Director of the Referral and Family Services Program, Administrator-on-Call (AOC), and the OPO Director(s), as appropriate. In addition, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, strategies, and action plans related to requesting Authorization/Donor Designation, and medical/social behaviors interview of next-of-kin or other appropriate family members or associates to offer the option of donation for the purpose of transplantation.

Responsibilities

  • Functions in all capacities as an FCC Specialist.
  • Actively participates in the call schedule and responds to all potential organ donors appropriately.
  • Responsible for all aspects of donor evaluation and management including review of medical and social history; assessment of hemodynamic stability and implementation of strategies to maintain and/or improve specific organ function.
  • Creates a positive learning environment for coworkers through effective communication and exhibits strong leadership skills.
  • Possesses knowledge of medical and legal principles of donor evaluation, consent, management, and allocation to serve as a resource and mentor to newer coordinators.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and competence with Authorization and Donor Designation policies and procedures as well as those of the Foundation policies.
  • Adheres to the standards of practice for quality assurance procedures established within the organization.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and training on policies and procedures relating to responding to referrals, medical suitability, approach, authorization, medical/social behavior interview, and initial donor management.
  • Works closely with the Medical Director and Administrator on Call on issues pertaining to clinical and technical aspects of quality organ donor evaluation and management when training a new coordinator or serving as a resource for a less experienced coordinator.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate the daily activities of trainee staff in the application of donor criteria, suitability, and physical evaluation, to include the issues of authorization, medical/social behavior interview, hospital-specific dynamics, transportation, OR scheduling, autopsy requirements, and other aspects of the organ/tissue recovery process, documentation, and follow-up, meeting documentation deadlines.
  • Assist Manager with any personnel-related issues or situations that apply to trainee staff.
  • Assist Manager in the implementation of approved protocol modifications, training and monitoring trainee staff performance and compliance.
  • Inspect, maintain, and monitor equipment, supplies, and instrumentation being used for procurement, evaluating need for upgrades, and making recommendations to the Manager.
  • Organize/conduct on-site competency evaluation to increase and maintain the expertise of all FCCs and establish consistency of practice as directed by the Manager of the Family Care Coordinator Program.
  • Works on special assignments and projects as directed by the Manager and Director of the Family Care Coordinator Program.
