About The Position

A Family and Consumer Sciences teacher educates students in practical life skills like nutrition, cooking, sewing and finance. A Family and Consumer Sciences teacher develops rigorous, hands-on lessons, manages the classroom to increase engagement, assesses progress and fosters critical think for students' future success in careers or further education. Teachers of all disciplines play a critical role in helping students to build and expand reading and critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • Ability to explain FACS and relative CTE concepts to students
  • Ability to represent abstract concepts in concrete ways
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues
  • Appropriate N.Y.S. Teaching Certification

Responsibilities

  • Lesson planning: Create lesson plans that meet the needs of all students
  • Teaching: Deliver engaging lessons that help students understand relative concepts
  • Grading: Grade assignments, quizzes, tests, and final exams
  • Student support: Provide extra help to students who need it
  • Communication: Communicate with students, parents, and other staff
  • Assessment: Evaluate student performance and monitor progress
  • Professional development: Meet state requirements for professional development
  • Classroom management: Create a safe and positive learning environment
  • Curriculum: Use curriculum resources that reflect the students' diverse backgrounds
