About The Position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a Family and Community Engagement Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is grant funded and will work for 11 months. The specialist will be responsible for supporting the overall educational and social/emotional goals of the district, engaging with families and community resources to facilitate services for students and their families. The role includes case management, ongoing communication with school staff, and collaboration with mental health providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or other health-related field.
  • Ability to work closely and harmoniously with HPS families, nurses, teachers, and administrators.
  • Ability to conduct home visits and write developmental histories.
  • Knowledge of area mental health services available for HPS families and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support the overall educational and social/emotional goals of the district.
  • Provide social/emotional support/processing for youth and families.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with district principals, teachers, and students.
  • Develop a catalog of school and community-based services for website and print materials.
  • Support families as they enter the school community and connect them to resources.
  • Visit local resources and network with community agencies.
  • Engage families and youth to facilitate or coordinate community and school-based services.
  • Manage cases for families entering HPS with siblings across multiple schools.
  • Access SNAP student health record database to collect and document referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing and mental behavioral health staff.
  • Conduct a community mental health needs assessment and provide a report to administration.
  • Collaborate on district policy and protocol related to mental health services.
  • Assist with SBIRT screenings.
  • Attend community-based meetings.
  • Provide and/or assist with community trainings as needed.
  • Provide and/or assist with professional development for staff.
  • Conduct home visits as needed.
