The Family Access Certified Enrollment Specialist I will serve as a resource for patients and provide excellent customer service in a courteous and professional manner. This position requires critical thinking skills, a strong work ethic and is essential for Children's to achieve identified financial benefits. Supports management and team members and performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the mission and vision of Children's Minnesota. The Family Access Certified Enrollment Specialist I also is responsible for communication with clinics and various ancillary services related to insurance coverage issues. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal, third party, EMTALA, and JCAHO regulations. Strives to minimize patient arrival to treatment area time, improving customer satisfaction as it relates to the registration process, waiting time and general communications. This Family Access Certified Enrollment Specialist I also provides financial assistance. This includes applying for Minnesota Health Care programs through MNsure Market place, Children's Financial Assistance, and disability programs to support our inpatient and outpatient families. Responsibilities include: preregistration/registration, insurance verification and eligibility. May also include obtaining initial authorization, and notifying payers of patient arrival. The Family Access Certified Enrollment Specialist I will serve as a resource for patients and provide excellent customer service in a professional manner. The Family Access Certified Enrollment Specialist I works on the hospital campus in main Registration, the Children's Specialty Center basement, the Family Resource Center or the Emergency department. Responsibilities include: customer service; registration & Financial Counseling via the phone, in person, or at the bedside; desk duties, and working with many departments and or members of the care team to ensure we meet the needs of our patients and families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Two to four year colleges preferred.
  • MNsure Certification required to be completed within 3 months of date of hire. Clause should be included in Offer Letter.
  • Must be able to pass MNSure background check.
  • 1-2 years previous registration experience preferred. Comparable experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations is acceptable (e.g.; scheduling, billing, call center, registration, financial counseling).
  • Communication - Excellent customer service skills, strong communication skills, excellent phone etiquette, ability to handle patient complaints to resolution following the 4 A's as outlined by Children's Values. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and customer focus. Self directed as well as demonstrated ability to work within a team. Ability to handle stress. Knowledge of customer service philosophies and practices.
  • Computer - Window-based PC skills, keyboarding, 40 wpm (speed and accuracy), utilizing payer web pages, data entry ability. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of navigating and documenting within an EMR.
  • Organizational - Ability to organize/prioritize work and manage time effectively, ability to work from multiple schedules, detail oriented, ability to multitask, excellent follow-through skills. Ability to run productivity reports.
  • Technical - Knowledge of hospital, regulatory and compliance policies and procedures preferred knowledge and understanding of insurance payer requirements. Proficient in the operation of scanners, copiers, fax machines. Ability to manage a heavy case load in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Problem solving - Critical thinking skills, work prioritization, resourcefulness, self-motivated, detail oriented, continuous quality improvement/process improvement orientation.
  • Understands and upholds the basic philosophies of the revenue cycle, accounts receivable, and patient accounts. Knowledge of community resources for children and families. Ability to maintain a working relationship with other departments within the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Minnesota health care programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of eligibility verification and prior authorizations for payment from various HMOs, PPOs, commercial payers and other funding sources preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the revenue cycle preferred.
  • Previous experience with cash collection preferred.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic, procedure, supplies and/or facility coding specific to the area of authorization required by the department/unit preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment.
  • Medical Terminology knowledge is preferred.
