About The Position

This position is assigned to the PM shift. Flexibility to work other shifts as assigned including weekends and participating in the holiday rotation is required. Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, motors, medical gas equipment, and other auxiliary equipment to provide utility services for a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Requirements

  • Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Class) from either the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) or the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of technical training.
  • 2-4 Years of Stationary Engineering experience.
  • Moderate knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., software relating to CMMS, building automation, and Microsoft Office).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures.
  • Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Utilizes BAS as a tool for both monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment.
  • Responds to alarms in a timely and correct manner.
  • Optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures.
  • Troubleshoots issues with HVAC equipment and determines the root cause in a timely manner.
  • Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care.
  • Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal.
  • Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS.
  • Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments.
