The Space Sector of Moog’s Space and Defense Group (SDG) designs and manufactures systems which maximize performance in the most challenging conditions. MOOG is an industry leader in actuation, electronics/avionics, propulsion, power systems and vibration/shock control for both the Space and Defense markets. We are seeking a talented Failure Prevention Engineer for our facility in East Aurora, NY. This role integrates industrial engineering principles with investigative failure analysis for products at MOOG sites and already delivered to customers. The position focuses on process robustness, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions to drive continuous technical and technical improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, or related discipline required).
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and NX (knowledge of both preferred).
  • Familiarity with ANSYS for structural and thermal analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and shop equipment.
  • Strong understanding of RCCA methodologies, including fault tree analysis.
  • Ability to facilitate group activities and lead collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for product failures using RCCA tools, including fault tree analysis.
  • Perform process evaluations to identify risks and inefficiencies and recommend improvements for manufacturing and assembly operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate group problem-solving activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize engineering tools such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, and NX for design analysis and process optimization.
  • Assess component performance and integrity using ANSYS simulation tools.
  • Support rapid prototyping efforts using a full range of shop equipment and ensure timely delivery of prototype solutions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for process improvements, failure analysis reports, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements for aerospace and defense manufacturing.
