About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. As a Failure Analysis Lab Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting technical lab work which supports satellite failure analysis and materials development investigations. You will execute SOPs focused on producing world-class analysis outcomes in the areas of sample preparation and physical/chemical materials characterization. A majority of your time will be spent in a lab environment, so enthusiasm for hands-on work and developing lab procedures, and attention to detail is important. You will provide technical support for materials and failure analysis investigations with the goal of driving design and manufacturing improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 7+ years of equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a materials or failure analysis lab environment
  • Ability to learn and retain scientific concepts
  • Understanding of safe work practices in a lab environment with furnaces, saws, solvents, and acids/bases etc.
  • Ability to multitask and rapidly change roles/responsibilities while following standard operating procedures
  • Experience working with or analyzing electronic components (PCB, PCBA, and other electromechanical components)
  • Experience in chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, or material science
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Atlassian JIRA, and SAP
  • Experience preparing metallurgical or electronic specimen for microscopic inspection including sectioning, polishing, and etching
  • Experience setting up and running analytical equipment (FTIR, DSC, TMA, XRF, X-ray, SEM)
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills to keep work area tidy and organize workflow

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical cross sectioning and associated sample preparation
  • X-ray inspection methods (2D and computed tomography) geared towards failure analysis of microelectronics
  • Optical inspection methods and measurements
  • Scanning Electron Microscope operation and Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy
  • Thermal Analytical Techniques including, DSC, DMA, TMA, FTIR
  • Lab consumable procurement and maintenance
  • Coordinate the maintenance, 5S and safe operation of all laboratory equipment and lab area
