About The Position

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) Sr. Software Engineer at Hitachi Astemo is responsible for providing customer support for the company's suspension controller. This role involves interfacing with customers from the program kickoff through to launch and post-production support, focusing on software integration and troubleshooting in both bench environments and customer vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in writing embedded software in C.
  • 2+ years of experience as a field application engineer or resident engineer.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and debugging.
  • Experience with Rootcause methods such as fault tree analysis and fishbone.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, specifically 32-bit automotive multi-core micros from families like Renesas E2x/RH850, Infineon Aurix TCxx, and NXP MPC55xx.
  • Proficiency with software development tools including cross compilers, static code analysis, in-circuit debuggers, and serial communication tools.
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, CANFD, LIN, SENT, Ethernet, UDS, GMLAN, FNOS, J1939, and IEEE15765.
  • Experience in application domains such as powertrain, automatic transmission controls, and engine control.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support for software flashing or debugging on customer bench or vehicle.
  • Build relationships with key customer contacts to identify future business opportunities.
  • Lead resolution of customer-reported issues, coordinating with design engineering and providing weekly status updates.
  • Create 8D and Rootcause documentation for problem resolution.
  • Facilitate communication between customers and Hitachi's internal teams, including design engineering, logistics, and QA.
  • Support customer field trips and software baseline creation.
  • Coordinate meetings for design reviews or customer issues.
