About The Position

Emory University's Candler School of Theology invites applications and nominations for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Worship. Rank is open. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or its equivalent in a relevant field by the time of appointment in the fall semester of 2026. Preference will be given to complete applications submitted by October 15, 2025. The search is open to scholars whose research focuses on the history, theology, and practice of Christian worship. Candidates' primary academic training may be in any discipline related to worship, including historical, theological, and practical theological approaches. Successful candidates will situate their research and teaching within larger ecumenical, multi-faith, and global contexts, and will have the capacity to teach Wesleyan Methodist theology and practice of worship. Candidates must also demonstrate commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student body. The person selected for this position will develop and teach courses in several of the degree programs of Candler School of Theology, including the MDiv, MTS, MARL, and DMin programs. Candidates should be prepared to teach in online and in-person modalities. The appointee will have regular faculty rotation in the school's Contextual Education program. Appointees with a substantial research and publication agenda can apply to participate in the Graduate Division of Religion in the Laney Graduate School of Emory University. In addition to teaching and research, faculty members of Candler School of Theology are committed to service, both within the school and in the larger church and community.
