About The Position

Hunter College, the City University of New York invites applications for the prestigious Anne Welsh McNulty Chair of Science Innovation and Leadership, a tenured and endowed faculty position designed to recognize and support a distinguished scholar with an outstanding record of research, teaching, and service. We welcome applications from scholars in all areas of Science, particularly in Astronomy, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or Neuroscience. We seek candidates who will enhance our existing strengths especially in the areas of Cancer biology, Infectious Disease, Translational Neuroscience, Quantum Science, Energy Storage, or Radiochemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to provide visionary leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their field. The McNulty Chair will have the vision and experience to act as a mentor and model for undergraduate researchers in the McNulty Scholars. The McNulty Chair will also actively work to develop and maintain a deep and lasting relationship with the John P. and Anne Welsh McNulty Foundation. Reporting to the Chair of the appropriate department, the successful candidate will be expected to build on their existing: + Track-record for high-quality scholarship by supporting a robust, externally funded research program while mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. + Acknowledged status for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. + Demonstrable record of mentoring, including women interested in Science.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to teach successfully
  • Demonstrated scholarship or achievement
  • Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

  • Strong history of and potential for securing external research funding
  • Demonstrated reputation for vision and leadership in their field
  • Evidence of effective teaching or potential for excellence in teaching
  • Ability to contribute to the relevant department's collegial and collaborative environment
