About The Position

Feather River College seeks an instructor for a tenure track position in the areas of Mathematics. Under the general supervision of the Chief Instructional Officer (CIO) and within the Liberal Arts and Sciences Division, the Mathematics Instructor is responsible for teaching all levels of mathematics classes through calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and statistics. The individual in this position works closely with other faculty in the department to provide assistance in planning, developing, and maintaining the mathematics program. Requirements

  • Completion of one of the following: Master's in mathematics OR Bachelor's in the above AND Master's in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR The equivalent.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the classroom with students of varying academic abilities and diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of online learning management systems, specifically Canvas.
  • Successful teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a wide range of mathematics courses that satisfy a range of student needs that include general education coursework as well as major-specific coursework.
  • Develop and update curriculum in mathematics, including articulation agreements with transfer institutions.
  • Create and implement culturally responsive and equity minded course material, teaching practices, and learning assessment strategies that enhance student. success and persistence toward academic/career goals and that help close equity gaps and promote social justice.
  • Use and develop a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods including the use of technology to engage student interest and learning, and to support a variety of learning styles which relate to Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  • Participate in the continuing development of instructional support strategies, including tutoring, and supplemental instruction.
  • Fulfill non-teaching assignments such as scheduled office hours, selection of textbooks, evaluation of course materials, curriculum development, student advising, program promotion, and participation in departmental meetings, and in shared governance committees, including the Academic Senate.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (e.g., grades, syllabi, census reports).
  • Complete program reviews, develop program budgets, and assess student learning at the course and program levels.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other full-time and associate faculty on scheduling, the assessment of student learning, instructional strategies, and new developments in the field.
  • Conduct activities supporting student retention objectives.
  • Assist in the development of recruitment materials and participate in recruitment activities.
  • Participate in professional growth and remain current in the subject area(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
