About The Position

The Faculty, Marine Engineering position is a full-time, 10-month Faculty position. This position is an instructional position with duties and responsibilities, which are established in accordance with State Board of Education Rules and Board of Trustee policies. Teaching assignments will include courses in small engines, two and four stroke cycle engines, diesel engines, fiberglass, seamanship, and other courses related to marine engineering. Hours will vary according to class schedules. This position maintains a 37.5-hour week and reports to the Academic Dean, Marine and Applied Sciences. All instructors are responsible for utilizing the College's learning management system as all College courses are at a minimum technology enhanced.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, or Seamanship required.
  • Three (3) years' teaching experience at the community college level or higher is preferred.
  • Three (3) years' work experience in field is preferred.
  • Verifiable knowledge of vessel (up to 100 gross tons) operations, systems, repairs, and maintenance required.
  • Verifiable knowledge of small watercraft operations, repair and maintenance required.
  • Understanding and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity.
  • Experience with or willingness to develop distance-learning classes.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate or Master's in a related field preferred.
  • Verifiable knowledge of fiberglass and/or composite boat repair, construction and maintenance preferred.
  • Currently licensed USCG Captain preferred (OUPV, Master 100 ton, etc.).
  • Marine diesel certification(s) preferred (e.g. ABYC).
  • Gasoline engine certification(s) preferred (Yamaha, BRP, Mercury, ABYC, etc.).
  • Fiberglass and/or composite certifications preferred (e.g. ABYC Composite Boat Builder Certification).
  • Welding certification preferred (e.g. AWS).

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and instructs assigned courses to promote student success.
  • Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to students and communication with administration.
  • Responsible for evaluating student learning and objective achievement and providing feedback.
  • Promotes positive student learning outcomes through effective teaching.
  • Selects appropriate materials and equipment for discipline or program use, and ensures proper care and safety in their use.
  • Submits specific course material needs for approval and procurement prior to the beginning of the academic year.
  • Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of the College.
  • Works with other Faculty to evaluate and revise existing courses and to develop new courses.
  • Assists in implementing College policies, objectives and functions in accordance with the College Mission Statement.
  • Participates in Institutional Planning and Budget process.
  • Participates and assists with accreditation efforts as assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping current in the discipline or program areas taught.
  • Participates in staff and committee work.
  • Attends College-wide academic and staff meetings and academic official functions.
  • Maintains good relationships with community agencies and groups and participates as appropriate.
  • Participates in training as required.
  • Assists in all College enrollment management efforts as appropriate.
  • Attends fall and spring Graduation/Commencement ceremony.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
