The Faculty for the Anesthesia Assistant Program at VCOM is responsible for teaching and developing coursework for Anesthesiologist Assistant students. This role involves active participation in curriculum development, mentoring students, and maintaining professional connections. The faculty member will deliver an integrated curriculum, evaluate educational materials, and ensure the relevance of the academic experience for students in the MHSA program.

  • Teach all assigned coursework to Anesthesiologist Assistant students.
  • Participate in curriculum development in collaboration with the Dean.
  • Develop, teach, monitor, and evaluate courses in basic science, clinical, and simulation/skills development aspects of the graduate program.
  • Act as a resource for professional and community connections for personal and professional development.
  • Serve as Course Director for Clinical Physiology and Pathophysiology and other assigned courses.
  • Participate in the evaluation of textbooks and other learning materials.
  • Collaborate with VCOM biomedical science faculty to deliver applicable content.
  • Assist in maintaining a current curriculum map.
  • Review, update, and revise course syllabi according to Program policy.
  • Recommend changes in curriculum, policy, and program requirements to the Curriculum Committee.
  • Teach 40-60 graduate level course hours per year.
  • Instruct student learners in simulation-based skills learning activities.
  • Serve as a primary clinical preceptor of Program students.
  • Prepare and deliver assigned courses effectively.
  • Maintain online course content.
  • Participate in candidate student interviews and Program committees.
  • Assist in the ongoing evaluation of the Program.
  • Prepare and submit reports on course activities as directed by the Dean.
  • Submit an annual Faculty Activity Report as directed.
  • Adhere to administrative and academic practices, policies, and procedures of the Program and VCOM.
  • Work positively with the Dean and associated faculty in all areas of work.
  • Participate in program strategic planning and growth initiatives.
  • Maintain standards of clinical performance according to Program objectives.
  • Completion of an accredited program in Anesthesiologist Assistant or Nurse Anesthesia, master's degree or higher.
  • Professional certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant or Nurse Anesthetist; valid professional state license in good standing.
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience in anesthesiology or closely related field.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level.
  • Organizational committee participation.
  • A record of community experience.
  • Ability to mentor students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team player.

  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Advanced degree in education or related field.
