About The Position

Portland Community College seeks one full-time Building Construction Technology (BCT) instructor to teach in person at the Rock Creek Campus, beginning September 2026. We are looking for a colleague with strong industry experience and instructional expertise in residential construction who nurture safety-centered, hands-on learning environments. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach and model professional hands-on practices in all areas of light frame residential construction. This includes the ability to lift 50 lbs, work from a ladder or scaffolding in both inside and outdoor environments. A typical course format includes 3hrs lectures and 6hr labs. Additional course work to be taught will include: tool and equipment safety, construction math, blueprint reading, materials and methods, and related BCT coursework. Ideal applicants will show a deep understanding of — and sensitivity to — the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of community college students, as well as the varied abilities and experiences they bring to technical programs. The successful candidates will be prepared to teach a range of introductory and intermediate BCT courses, contribute to curriculum development, and foster an inclusive, safety-focused learning environment where all students can succeed. Tentative screening timeline: First interviews (Zoom) February 2026. Second interviews and teaching demonstrations (in-person and on campus) mid February or early March 2026. Finalist interviews with AVP and Pathway Dean (Zoom) in or after April 2026. Note: As part of your application to be considered for this Instructor position, we will ask you to respond to this important question: In what ways do, or would, your lived experiences shape your culturally- responsive teaching? Please give examples.
