About The Position

Feather River College seeks an instructor for a tenure track position in the areas of Earth Sciences and Physics. Under the general supervision of the Chief Instructional Officer (CIO) and within the Liberal Arts and Sciences Division, the successful candidate will teach a full range of earth science and physics classes to support the General Education program and other majors at the college. The individual in this position is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining community college-level earth science and physics programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Meteorology, Oceanography, Paleontology OR Bachelor's in Geology and Master's in Geography, Physics, or Geochemistry OR the equivalent
  • OR
  • Master's in physics OR Bachelor's in physics AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology or geophysics OR the equivalent to any one of the above lines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the classroom with students of varying academic abilities and diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff

Nice To Haves

  • Successful teaching experience, preferably at the community college level,
  • Ability to communicate and willingness to work cooperatively with all college constituencies, and/or
  • Ability to teach Geospatial or Environmental Science Classes

Responsibilities

  • Teach a wide range of physical science courses, including physics and courses related to earth sciences, such as geology, and geography.
  • Teach data collection methods including field data collection, with emphasis on proper and accepted field protocols, data analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Maintain teaching labs and materials appropriate for introductory and transfer -level college classes
  • Create and implement culturally responsive and equity minded course material, teaching practices, and learning assessment strategies that enhance student success and persistence toward academic/career goals and that help close equity gaps.
  • Assist in the articulation of courses and programs with high schools and four-year Colleges..
  • Use and develop a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods, including online learning management systems and related supplemental software tools to engage student interest and to support a variety of learning styles.
  • Participate in analysis and review of curriculum.
  • Fulfill college duties such as scheduled office hours, textbook selection, scheduling courses, course materials evaluation, curriculum development, catalog review, peer reviews and participation in college and shared governance committees.
  • Conduct activities supporting student retention objectives.
  • Participate in professional growth and remain current in the subject area(s), especially those that contribute to the development of STEM areas.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers and public and private agencies in related occupational fields.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
