This position serves as both an administrator and a principal faculty member, supporting all facets of the PA Program’s clinical education in close collaboration with the program director, faculty, and staff. Core responsibilities include developing and delivering clinical curriculum, creating rotation‑specific syllabi, and ensuring alignment with accreditation standards. The role also involves recruiting and sustaining clinical sites and preceptors, coordinating and evaluating clinical rotations, advising and monitoring students, and maintaining accurate academic records. Additional contributions include participating in admissions processes, committee service, program events, and continuous program improvement initiatives. The incumbent will also represent the program at professional meetings and support activities that advance both the PA Program and the physician assistant profession.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited institution
  • Three or more years of clinical experience working as a physician assistant
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Valid physician assistant license for the State of Rhode Island or Massachusetts, or eligibility to obtain such licensure upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and delivers relevant and current curriculum using a variety of teaching methods and standardized tools that accurately reflect effectiveness of course content including instructional objectives, expected competencies, entrustable professional activities (EPA), content outlines, lecture notes, instructional methods/activities, handouts, and evaluation tools that are distributed to teaching faculty and/or students
  • Develops and maintains clinical year rotation-specific syllabi including instructional objectives, expected competencies, content outlines, lecture notes, instructional methods/activities, handouts, and evaluation tools that are distributed to teaching faculty and/or students
  • Recruits, develops, and maintains clinical year rotation and other experiential learning sites and then matches students with these sites
  • Visits clinical sites regularly for student as well as site evaluation in order to maintain continuing program accreditation
  • Develops clinical year preceptor enrichment opportunities
  • Plans, sequences, and coordinates clinical rotations and course content, and recruits appropriate internal and external lecturers to deliver clinical year supplemental course material
  • Represents the program at medical conferences and other meetings
  • Develops, implements and evaluates the mission statement as necessary
  • Selects applicants for admission to the program
  • Measures student understanding of course content in an objective fashion
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement, and performance in accordance with university policies, procedures and accreditation requirements
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, a university approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Posts and maintains regular office hours for student consultation per guidelines set forth in the faculty manual
  • Refers students to appropriate university resources for information, financial assistance, career development, or other guidance
  • Monitors and communicates consistently with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
  • Assists with updating program handbooks and other programmatic manuals
  • Participates in student advising and remedial instruction
  • Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, faculty orientation, training programs, and committee meetings of which they are members
  • Serves as a committee member as assigned by the dean, department chair, program director, or elected by the faculty members at large
  • Participates in student orientation, admissions events, open houses, Family Weekend, competitions, professional conferences, and other events as directed by the department chair or director
  • Supports extracurricular activities which advance the PA Program and/or PA profession by attendance and/or service as an advisor
  • Selects applicants for admission to the program
  • Designs, implements, coordinates, and evaluates curriculum in accordance with accreditation and university requirements
  • Performs in accordance with university and program policies and procedures including maintaining familiarity with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant Inc. (ARC-PA) standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned
