About The Position

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks an Assistant Professor of Accounting to join its growing business department serving undergraduate and graduate students both on-campus in Olivet, Michigan and online globally. Preference in hiring will be given to individuals who have an academic background and experience in accounting. This position has primary assignment in the on-campus undergraduate programs located in Olivet, Michigan. Opportunities to teach at the graduate level as well as in our online degree completion program are possible. Hires at other ranks may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications. Students from underrepresented minorities constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American. Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Full-time faculty members teach 24 credit hours (or the equivalent) over the academic year, with institutional support provided for scholarly activities. The faculty member is expected to instruct standard undergraduate courses in accounting and business as well as instruct courses within the university’s general studies program. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, engaging in scholarly activities, and supporting the university and its mission through departmental and university committee participation, program and curriculum development, and other service.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field is desired; MBA or graduate degree in accounting or business-related field required
  • Business/industry experience preferred
  • Candidates must demonstrate successful teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to teaching and mentoring students in an inclusive, ethnically diverse environment

  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating problem-based and solution-oriented approaches to teaching that center the perspectives of historically disadvantaged or underrepresented communities
