About The Position

As a member of this world class team, the Lead Physical Designer will be responsible for all aspects of design for Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be working within the engineering design team to ensure all project design documentation is delivered on time, on budget and with excellent quality. This includes physical drawings for fixed series capacitors (FSC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems Americas portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college with 5 years' experience; or associate's degree with 10 years of experience in the specific field of engineering design.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as required, which may include remote locations and international travel, and be willing to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs.
  • Experience specifying equipment for use in projects for the utility industry.
  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, and ability to design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Superior communication in the English language and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead amongst peers and be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for 3D design of custom equipment design solutions, including physical plan, elevations, section detail views, required custom views for FACTS solutions for orders and proposals.
  • Develop Bills of Material for all designs, ensure consistency and quality throughout design process.
  • Coordinate with offshore design resources and the project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives.
  • Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations.
  • Facilitate the development and execute cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low-cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction.
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, Autodesk and Bentley Open Utilities 3D CAD platforms.
  • Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.
