The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for. Times Opinion is hiring a staff editor to fact check episodes across our growing Opinion Shows portfolio, both in video and audio formats. This position may be remote eligible and will work 12pm to 8pm east coast hours. You will work with producers and editors to check facts and assertions, with extra attention to the tone and context in which they're delivered. You are comfortable working across print, audio and video in a fast-paced news environment while juggling multiple projects. We're looking for exceptional news judgment, an investigator's mind and the ability to dive into unfamiliar material on deadline. And while we value deliberate, careful checking, speed is also important. The fact checker will be part of a small group of producers and editors, so collegiality, diplomacy and a collaborative spirit are a must.
