As a Funeral Service Assistant, you play a key role in supporting families, guests, and funeral professionals by helping services run smoothly and compassionately. This role is ideal for someone who is emotionally grounded and able to stay composed in a setting centered around grief, remembrance and loss. You’ll support Funeral Directors and staff with both behind-the-scenes and front-facing responsibilities, including: Supporting Families & Services Greet and escort guests with warmth, professionalism, and respect Assist families during visitations and services Hand out service folders and provide directions to guests Support clergy, pallbearers, and service participants Event & Service Setup Arrange flowers, lighting, and service materials Create memorial folders and video tributes Operate audio/visual systems, including recording or live streaming services Facility & Vehicle Support Maintain a clean, welcoming funeral home environment Disinfect and clean chapels, arrangement rooms, and common areas Drive, fuel, and clean service vehicles (hearse, vans) Office & Administrative Support Answer phones and take first-call information or messages Assist with printing, faxing, and maintaining office equipment Provide receptionist coverage during breaks or absences Run errands such as deliveries or item pick-ups Team Support Assist clerical and funeral staff as needed Step in where help is needed—every day is different You’ll Succeed in This Role If You: Are dependable, compassionate, and professional Take initiative and can work independently Stay calm and courteous in emotional situations Pay attention to details and follow through on tasks Are comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds Work Environment Indoor and outdoor work Exposure to all weather conditions Moderate noise level Office, chapel, and service settings Physical Requirements Standing or sitting for extended periods Frequent use of hands and arms Close interaction with small and large groups Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment A Few Important Notes No supervisory responsibilities Duties may change based on business needs Employment is at-will This description is not a contract
