About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of district facilities, creating a welcoming and conducive environment for students, staff, and the community. The role focuses on overseeing custodial operations, performing routine and deep cleaning tasks, and maintaining grounds to meet high standards of functionality and appearance. Key responsibilities include scheduling and supervising custodial staff, inspecting work to ensure quality, managing supplies and equipment, and coordinating contracted services such as snow removal and grass mowing. This position also emphasizes safety compliance by monitoring work areas, maintaining tools, and adhering to OSHA and district policies. Aligned with the department's strategic goals, this role supports operational excellence by proactively addressing facility needs, ensuring a high level of cleanliness, and fostering collaboration among staff to enhance productivity. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of paid, professional experience in the custodial field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to use a computer and properly use an FCPS e-mail account.
  • Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Some skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules; day, evening, and nightshifts.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Paid, professional custodial experience related to a public entity preferably an agency related to public education.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine custodial tasks, such as cleaning assigned areas, graffiti removal, replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging plumbing fixtures, and minor equipment repairs.
  • Complete deep cleaning tasks, including refinishing floors, washing furniture, high cleaning, and carpet cleaning.
  • Carry out seasonal grounds keeping tasks, such as snow removal, salt spreading, grass mowing, mulching, and trash policing.
  • Assess work of custodians and provide feedback to ensure facility is maintained to established standards.
  • Ensure efficient custodial scheduling to support building operations, extracurricular activities, and emergencies while minimizing overtime costs.
  • Conduct regular building walk-throughs to assess cleanliness, operational readiness, and safety.
  • Oversee contracted services, such as snow removal, grass mowing, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Maintain custodial supply levels to support operations and prevent spoilage.
  • Complete and submit work orders and reports, such as supply requisitions, repair requests, and oil tank readings, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Train new custodial staff to ensure proper cleaning techniques and adherence to standards.
  • Assist and support other personnel in completing facility-related tasks as needed.
  • Communicate effectively to enhance productivity and foster respectful relationships across the organization.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition, adhering to OSHA and FCPS standards.
  • Monitor work activities to prevent injuries and ensure site safety, immediately reporting unsafe conditions or broken equipment.
  • Ensure that all tasks, including those performed by staff, are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain powered equipment, tractors, snow blowers, and lawn mowers, following all applicable safety regulations.
  • Inspect and maintain tools and equipment to ensure they remain in safe working condition.
