About The Position

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Facility Radiological Protection Manager to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site. The Facility Radiological Protection Manager directs and integrates the activities of work groups assigned to support the safe and efficient management of radiological & industrial safety to include Radiological Protection, Industrial Hygiene, and Safety personnel as defined by the Area Safety and Health (S&H) Manager. This includes the formulation & implementation of policies and practices to ensure the radiological & industrial safety of Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) employees. Responsible for managing activities and providing oversight for the coordination, planning, & execution of work activities to meet Federal, State, Company, and Site requirements that will protect the occupational safety and health of the employees, the public, and the environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and progressive related experience; or
  • Associates degree and progressive related experience; or
  • High School Diploma or GED and a combination of secondary education and/or related experience
  • Nuclear experience is required.
  • Managers must receive facility-specific training based upon a comparison of the individual's background and abilities with the responsibilities and duties of the position.
  • This position falls under DOE Order 426.2 and as such must meet the conditions of the order

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years nuclear experience, preferably in the Liquid Waste and/or DOE Complex
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certified

Responsibilities

  • Manages, directs, and integrates the facility's Radiation Protection Program by: coordinating with the Area Safety and Health Manager to establish expectations and ensure communications between S&H and the facility; resolving technical issues; managing the implementation of program improvements relative to employee performance through Conduct of Operations initiatives; and providing management oversight to ensure that facility personnel are following the requirements of the Site's Radiological Control (5Q) Manual.
  • Implements Site and DOE level policies through formulation and execution of facility specific plans and procedures; by reviewing radiation protection policies to ensure the facility is in compliance with applicable regulations and that the Radiation Protection Program is adequate to meet stringent external review criteria for startup and operations; meeting with other S&H Managers and providing advice on policy to establish consistency in programs; and review and assessing procedures and practices for technical accuracy.
  • Ensures facility is in full compliance with all Federal, State, Company, and Site requirements to maintain exposure to site personnel and the general public ALARA by: assuming ownership of the facility's Radiation Protection Program to include Operational Readiness Reviews (ORRs), facility startup, occupational radiation exposure and contamination control; conducting management walkthroughs and surveillance's of areas of responsibilities to monitor and enforce standards; providing input to occurrence reports; and authoring formal responses to audits and surveillance's.
  • Represents S&H Department on radiological protection issues externally and internally. Formulates and communicates positions to various oversight and planning groups.
  • Directs and ensures the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) process is fully integrated into work planning to ensure that defined controls are established to minimize risk to personnel from both an industrial and radiological safety perspective
  • Develops and implements the facility's business planning systems to efficiently utilize resources by coordinating manpower requirements through daily and weekly planning meetings with Line Management as well as support business reviews.
  • Upgrades the quality of the facility's Radiation Protection Program to include monitoring the conduct of training and qualification programs for Radiological Control (RC) Inspectors and First Line Managers by: approving OJT qualifications; reviewing and approving facility-specific radiological control training materials; participating in Training Review Committees as needed; identifying improvement opportunities; implementing improvement processes; and evaluating the facility's radiological events and communicating lessons learned.
  • Provides management leadership to ensure a safety and total quality culture for the facility by: enforcing monthly safety meeting attendance and good work practices; emphasizing the importance of safety on and off the job; identifying improvement opportunities; and sponsoring improvement processes.
  • Provides management, values, and objectives for the facility by: ensuring compliance with SRR personnel policies; administering various employee Human Resource issues, including concerns, problems, and constructive discipline issues; and providing personnel and professional development support through training and counseling.
