Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and managing the entire lifecycle of medical center construction projects, from initial planning and design to construction and final handover.
  • Collaborating with department managers, clinical staff, and leadership to ensure that all project goals meet the functional and operational needs of the medical center.
  • Ensuring all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety codes specific to healthcare environments.
  • Establishing or assisting in the setting of medical center construction project budgets and managing them to ensure that all projects are designed and completed within budget.
  • Establishing or assisting in the setting of medical center construction project schedules and ensuring all projects are completed on time.
  • Reviewing design documents at various stages to ensure medical center functional and technical requirements are met.
  • Coordinating with the Utility Shutdown Manager to plan and implement utility shutdowns, minimizing disruptions to operations and patient care.
  • Presenting project concepts and updates to UWMC senior management, department leaders, staff, and faculty.
  • Developing construction phasing plans to ensure construction activities do not disrupt medical center operations.
  • Serving as the main point of contact between medical center departments and contractors to mitigate the impact of construction on daily operations.
  • Working with the University's Capital Projects Office to manage change orders, oversee budgets, and maintain compliance with project requirements.
  • Oversight of all capital construction projects for compliance to UWMC utility standards including project definition, scope review, submittal and document review.
