About The Position

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. The New York City Department of Correction seeks to recruit highly motivated individuals to serve as a Facility Operations Specialist, within the Facility Operations division.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience in management auditing, financial auditing, and/or information technology (IT) auditing; or a valid Certified Public Accountant license issued by the New York State Education Department; or a valid Certified Internal Auditor certificate issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Management Auditor - Assignment I or at least two years of experience in management auditing, financial auditing, and/or information technology (IT) auditing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day tasks associated with the Department's Body Worn Camera oversight program, to include report tracking, data analysis and trend identification.
  • Coordinate with facilities and the Department's Information Technology Division to receive notification and reports of damaged and inoperable body worn camera devices.
  • Travel to and from facilities, which span all five boroughs and Rikers Island, to take possession of damaged and inoperable body worn cameras, deliver temporary assignment cameras, and deliver and receive inoperable and repaired cameras from IT.
  • Conduct factual reviews and investigations into damaged body worn cameras.
  • Complete assignments relating to all aspects of Facility Operations, including special projects.
  • Prepare project status reports, presentations, agendas, meeting minutes, and maintain applicable supporting documents.
  • Track and manage the execution of critical processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiencies.
  • Problem solve and provide suggestions to agency leadership.
