About The Position

Will report to the Plant Utilities Engineer 1 or 2. Performs a variety of routine unskilled & semi-skilled manual tasks in the operation, maintenance and repairs of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and control systems while learning the HVAC trade.

Requirements

• Must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy labor
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
• Demonstrate the ability to adhere to safety standards
• Must be able to read, write, speak and perform basic math
• Required to climb and work on ladders and scaffolds
• Bend, stoop, stretch and stand for long periods of time
• Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds)
• Ability to operate motor vehicles and power-driven equipment
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license

Responsibilities

• Check A/C equipment for leaks and cleanliness
• Change filters
• Clean steam traps and strainers
• Apply labels and stencils
• Start pumps and air handling equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance per Task Codes on HVAC equipment
• Adjust belt tension and replace belts
• Remove/replace/adjust pulleys and bearings
• Paint plenums and mechanical systems/rooms
• Pick up parts from vendors
• Repair heating convector dampers
• Respond to alarm and trouble calls
• Reset fire alarms
