About The Position

The Facility Manager is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the business for the 10 Day Waste Management facility they are assigned to. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, this position will be responsible for the effective and successful creation and management of labor, productivity, compliance, quality control, and safety measures. The Facility Manager will work directly with the Operations team, sales team, the EH&S team, the accounting team, and the HR Team to succeed in their financial and personnel goals. Using Continuous improvement, the Facility Manager will look at all aspects of their site(s) to improve on the functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years’ progressive experience in management, operations, and leadership.
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss and balance sheet.
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a 10 Day Waste Management & transportation facility is a plus.
  • Previous experience and understanding of Government DLA contracts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the operation is managed in a correct, cost effective and timely manner in alignment with VLS expectations, goals, and quality requirements.
  • Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices that guarantee organizational well-being.
  • Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.
  • Examine financial data/statements and use them to improve profitability.
  • Perform quality controls and monitor production KPI’s.
  • Partner with the Transportation team to ensure all operations are 100% DOT compliant, including Driver Files, Hours of Service, Maintenance Files and all other requirements regulated by DOT.
  • Ensure all company equipment (Trucks and Trailers) are operating in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and appraise employees. Accomplish results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.
  • Forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Plan, schedule, and review workload and manpower to make sure targets are being met on a cost-effective basis.
  • Analyze process workflow, employee and space requirements and equipment layout; implement changes.
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Devise ways of monitoring and improving customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints.
  • Set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation. Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings.
  • Partner with Safety team to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA and other governmental and internal.
  • Partner with Sales Director/Team to devise ways of monitoring and improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints.
  • Take on additional responsibilities to develop and grow the operational footprint of San Diego
