About The Position

Provides basic skills to perform routine maintenance duties relevant to the upkeep of District facilities, both interiors and exteriors, and grounds. Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.

Requirements

  • High School plus two to four years of experience - or
  • Two years of college (Associates Degree) plus zero to two years of experience.
  • Experienced in basic plumbing, sheetrock repair, painting, and carpentry.
  • Knowledge to use personal computer and printers; familiarity with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Comprehension to read, write and perform basic counting and mathematics.
  • Familiarity with operation and day-to-day maintenance of usual facility systems and equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Skill in use of a personal computer and peripherals; ability to use accepted District software applications.
  • Demonstrated safe driving skills; knowledge of applicable safety standards for facilities.
  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  • Requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing and moderate lifting. Must be capable of working from ladders, elevated areas and in small areas.
  • Works inside and outside. Exposed to rain and seasonal weather extremes. Must be able to work with power tools and other hazardous equipment.
  • Employees in this classification will be tested for illegal drugs in accordance with the District's Drug Free Workplace Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts preventative, routine, and scheduled maintenance for all District facilities, to include: changing air filters, changing light bulbs, changing ballasts, A/C unit drainage, plumbing and electrical repairs, etc.
  • Inspects monthly all buildings fire extinguishers, AED, Smoke detectors.
  • Assists in moving furniture and other equipment as requested or in the performance of duties as needed.
  • Assists in maintenance of all organization facilities’ for cleanliness and safety to include: replacing light bulbs, damaged ceiling tiles, and exit lights.
  • Cleans equipment; maintains cleanliness and order in assigned storage rooms.
  • Operates various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools and equipment (i.e., pressure washer, vacuum cleaner, saws, and drills, etc.)
  • Maintains all facilities’ cleanliness and safety, to include: emptying trash cans, recycle bins and removal of cardboard or other larger items.
  • Repairs and maintains assigned grounds by troubleshooting irrigation system and making needed repairs.
  • Performs spot spraying to control insects and sets traps for rodents complying with EPA standards and guidelines.
  • Occasional basic “handyman” functions, to include painting, carpentry, sheetrock repair, minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Works with System Planning Superintendent to create procedural manuals for tasks related to the role of a Facility Maintenance Worker I.
  • Repairs and maintains assigned grounds by cleaning, planting, fertilizing, mowing, pruning, and troubleshooting.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
