About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Facility Maintenance Technician performs routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of YMCA facilities, equipment, and grounds. This is a hands-on, hourly position focused on painting, minor repairs, and maintaining safe, clean, and functional environments for members, program participants, and staff. The role requires regular travel between multiple YMCA branches. This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off (pro-rated), Holiday Pay, Full-Time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Household Membership. Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required; however, a Technical degree is highly preferred.
  • Must have 2-3 years of prior experience in facility management.
  • Requires knowledge in general and system preventive maintenance in the areas of service, security, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, carpentry and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training and certifications required before the first shift.
  • Safety and prevention trainings are also required to be completed on an annual basis.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive to other locations in the San Antonio and surrounding areas.
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine facility maintenance including HVAC monitoring, pool maintenance, backwashing, and filter changes.
  • Perform painting, patching, drywall touch-ups, trim work, and minor cosmetic repairs.
  • Complete minor repairs to doors, fixtures, flooring, cabinetry, and equipment.
  • Replace lighting, ballasts, bulbs, and repair fixtures.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and complete work orders.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and documentation.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and report hazards or malfunctions.
  • Assist skilled trades with semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of facilities and grounds.
  • Travel between multiple YMCA locations, primarily Schertz, with support at Walzem and Cibolo branches.
  • Follow YMCA safety procedures and complete required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
