About The Position

This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution, located in Elizabeth City, NC within Pasquotank County. The primary purpose of this position is to support and supervise the hands-on technical work in the management routine maintenance and repair operations at Pasquotank Correctional Institution with a variety of buildings and structures and/or support buildings ensuring they are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This position will assist in screening, interviewing and the selection of applicants; provide on-the-job and outside training; and develop and make adjustments to the shorter-term assignments, schedules and priorities. This position is/can be a working supervisor and normally participates in most of the maintenance, repair and minor renovation work to buildings, equipment and utility systems and special projects. Work normally includes making recommendations as to the final technical decision in a wide variety of trades; use of the Maintenance Management System (MMS), DPS Utility Billing System; and advising management concerning the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing or renovating equipment and facility. This position has some responsibility in a very limited combination of functions such as drawing working plans for minor renovations, security bar work and repairs, cost estimating of repairs and other projects, reviewing and commenting on plan sheets from outside designers and contractors, monitoring and inspecting contractor construction and renovation projects, acting as liaison to local officials and regulatory agencies. This position normally works under fairly close supervision and review and is responsible for inspecting the facility for maintenance needs for safety hazards, assist in yearly maintenance audits and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This position will supervise and handle all special projects assigned from Facility management.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with 10 or more years Maintenance supervisory experience.
