About The Position

The Norfolk Veterans Home is looking for someone who enjoys working with a dynamic building maintenance team to maintain our gorgeous long term care home. This position performs a variety of tasks including facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, skilled construction, installation, alteration, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work. The Maintenance Specialist works individually and/or as a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing their own work and performs related work as assigned. Hours: 2:30pm-11:00pm. On call rotation required. Wage: $24.836 (Breakdown: $21.836 base + $3.00 differential = $24.836)

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
  • Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
  • Eligible candidates must posses a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • On call rotation required.

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC, electrical, and plumbing installation and repairs.
  • Drywall patching, priming, and painting.
  • Basic maintenance skills in a commercial setting.

Responsibilities

  • Skilled patching and painting work on interiors and exteriors of buildings.
  • Performs proficient carpentry work, skilled plumbing work, and skilled electrical work.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs specialized electrical equipment such as refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters or other appliances.
  • Maintains, oils and cleans electrical motors and generators.
  • Does other electrical and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts.
  • Replaces, repairs, and rebuilds locks, electronic/electrical locks.
  • Perform outside tasks including snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
