About The Position

This is an IAMAW Union position open to Internal Applicants Only. The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA's Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Steam Plant Supervisor.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Four to Five years' experience in operation, service and repair of high-pressure steam production/distribution and associated equipment.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, trend graphs, services manuals, and the reading of all required precision instruments.
  • Knowledgeable of component OEM repair methods and STDs.
  • Training in designated field, craft or trade documented by certificate/diploma.
  • NAC clearance required.
  • Possess a valid license for operating private vehicles.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver License is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of Boilers, heating furnaces, Steam/Condensate distribution systems, pressure regulator valves and associated equipment.
  • Perform water chemistry sampling/testing as necessary.
  • Provide best practices training/direction to personnel regarding maintenance and repairs of related equipment, as necessary.
  • Start and stop equipment and build up specified pressure in equipment/systems, adjust or set controls to maintain continuous supply of utilities to facilities.
  • Observe operational temperature and pressure gauges and adjust controls accordingly.
  • Lubricate, maintain, and clean equipment.
  • Become a Safety Operator, qualified Steam Plant operator, fuel delivery truck operator and Nitrogen delivery truck operator.
  • Perform repairs, troubleshoot and make adjustments to machinery and equipment as required.
  • Respond to after-hour emergencies within contract allotted time frame.
  • Provide leadership and training during repair efforts that drive reliability by demonstrating good mechanical practices and judgment.
  • Assist the plant personnel in the development, and performance of equipment PM's, reliability metrics, work plans, and other RCM tasks.
