About The Position

Meeting USDA, HACCP, GMPF, and Company standards, and under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the functions of this role are to provide daily hands-on leadership, direction, and technical support to the Facilities Maintenance team. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant utilities, building systems, facility infrastructure, and full upkeep and maintenance of all buildings and grounds. Duties include exterior structures, parking areas, walkways, outbuildings, landscaping, snow removal, and site cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or facilities experience preferred.
  • Prior experience leading, coaching, or directing maintenance personnel in a shift-based or production support environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems required
  • Experience with industrial utilities including boilers, compressed air, electrical systems, and HVAC
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in maintenance management software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate daily maintenance work, prioritize urgent repairs, and ensure PMs and work orders are completed effectively.
  • Understanding of building maintenance practices including roofing, structural repairs, painting, and exterior upkeep.
  • Understanding of grounds maintenance practices (snow removal, landscaping, exterior care).
  • Ability to read schematics and follow technical procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to safely and effectively perform all essential job duties.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and torque equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, reach, and move continuously for extended periods, up to 10–12 hours or the full duration of the shift.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 17 feet and access elevated platforms, ladders, and equipment.
  • Ability to work underneath, on, or around equipment, including in confined spaces as small as 2 feet by 2 feet.
  • Ability to work in industrial food production environments that include wet, cold, uneven, sloped, or confined areas.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting and repair activities in a fast-paced, high-demand production environment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, hair net, protective clothing, gloves, and arm protection.
  • Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions, equipment sounds, alarms, and emergency signals.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand written materials, technical documents, and computer screens.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and related technology, and perform administrative duties as required.
  • Ability to work in both office and industrial production environments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to facilities technicians.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in assigning work, manage shift priorities, and ensure proper coverage for utilities, building systems, and grounds upkeep.
  • Support a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and emergency response as needed.
  • Support operations by coordinating fast and effective troubleshooting during equipment downtime.
  • Execute daily facility, utility, building, and grounds maintenance plans as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Oversee upkeep and maintenance of all buildings and grounds including lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, walkways, parking lots, exterior structures, roofs, windows, and general site appearance.
  • Support PM and predictive maintenance completion and ensure proper work order documentation.
  • Assist in identifying equipment, building, or grounds-related issues and reporting reliability concerns.
  • Reinforce disciplined startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting processes.
  • Support rapid troubleshooting of facility and utility failures to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure proper documentation and use of CMMS for maintenance planning and tracking.
  • Support maintenance of boilers, compressed air systems, HVAC, water systems, wastewater systems, and electrical distribution.
  • Immediately report utility performance issues and system risks to the Facilities Manager.
  • Provide on-the-job training to technicians in safe work practices, building maintenance, grounds care, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend training needs.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce safe work practices including LOTO, confined space, electrical safety, and ammonia safety.
  • Lead or support safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Recommend improvements to facility reliability, building maintenance practices, grounds upkeep, efficiency, and performance.
  • Support cost-effective maintenance practices and proper material usage.
  • Assist with project preparation and execution.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management
