About The Position

Chesapeake Public Works is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in a Mechanical trade, to oversee facility technicians and contractors performing repairs and maintenance at all City facilities. Job duties include but are not limited to: Coordinate/oversee mechanical maintenance and repairs, inspection of fire protection systems, inspection of elevators, and alarms testing at all City facilities. Supervise facility technicians and contractors performing these functions. Advise Superintendent, Project Manager, and Municipal Facilities Administrator on mechanical/electronic technology and maintenance issues. Assist with budget preparation, job estimates, developing maintenance procedures, dealing with outside inspectors/officials, and any other administrative task necessary to the division. Requirements

  • VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in mechanical trades, building trades, or a closely related field.
  • SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of four years of hands-on experience in one or more mechanical trades.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong mechanical background is required for success in this role.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more mechanical trades is essential.
  • Mechanical licenses are not required but preferred.
