About The Position

Applies basic level knowledge of gas construction practices with limited supervision. Locates gas distribution and transmission lines, and maintains valve boxes. Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.

Requirements

  • High School plus zero to two years of experience in utility location and emergency response.
  • Exhibits essential math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals).
  • Basic language skills: read, write, and speak clearly.
  • Interpersonal skills to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisors, follow work rules, keep required job schedules and focus on details, and encourage cooperative work environment.
  • Awareness and comprehension of company policies, procedures and practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Shows understanding of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Sunshine One-Call and DOT regulations related to corrosion, leak testing and record keeping.
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office and applicable District approved software).
  • This position requires knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart N: Operator Qualifications (OQ).
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Proven capability to perform all work in compliance with District, local, state and federal standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts right-of-way and pipeline protection activities including pipe location, excavation monitoring, and inspections resulting from one-call notifications and/or direct calls.
  • Ability to interpret maps, plans and blueprints to locate pipeline facilities.
  • Displays knowledge of transmission pipeline systems operations.
  • Proven skills to install, repair, service and maintain valves, pipe, pipeline and appurtenances.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • This position may be required to work overtime with little notice.
  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized/approved uniform during work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Applies basic level knowledge of gas construction practices with limited supervision.
  • Using prescribed equipment, locates gas lines for utilities and customers.
  • Locators are required to dig to the line to visually inspect.
  • Must use current techniques to determine location of gas line.
  • Must be able to locate our all polyethylene (P.E.) systems.
  • Provides drawings for system map updates.
  • Ensures truck is properly stocked with equipment and construction materials.
  • Completes appropriate forms and documents all work performed.
  • Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned.
  • Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.
  • Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
