About The Position

A Career with Purpose The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is searching for an Investigator to ensure accountability and compliance with agency policies and applicable laws. This role will be responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and integrity of facility operations. Experience with conducting interviews for investigations, and compliance of accreditation standards is a plus. Basic Purpose The COJC Investigator is responsible for conducting impartial, timely, and thorough investigations into caretaker misconduct allegations and major rule violations within a secure juvenile facility. This position ensures due process is afforded in all investigations involving alleged minor and major rule violations while promoting staff accountability and compliance with agency policy, administrative rules, and applicable laws. The role plays a critical function in maintaining the safety, security, and integrity of facility operations for both residents and staff.

Requirements

  • Level I - Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional level experience for each year of the required education.
  • Level II - Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional level experience for each year of the required education.
  • Applicants may be required to travel as part of their job responsibilities.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license for operating state-owned vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass OSBI and FBI background check.
  • Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
  • Must be able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with conducting interviews for investigations, and compliance of accreditation standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigations into caretaker misconduct allegations, including violations of minor and major rules, in accordance with agency policy, administrative rules, and due process requirements.
  • Reviews, gathers, and analyzes evidence including written statements, reports, video footage, logs, and other relevant documentation.
  • Conducts interviews with staff, residents, and witnesses in a professional, neutral, and trauma-informed manner.
  • Ensures investigative processes uphold fairness, confidentiality, and procedural due process for all involved parties.
  • Prepares clear, accurate, and timely investigative reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and supporting evidence.
  • Makes findings and recommendations consistent with established standards of proof and agency policy.
  • Coordinates with facility leadership, human resources, security staff, and legal or compliance units as appropriate.
  • Tracks and monitors investigations to ensure timeliness, documentation accuracy, and closure.
  • Identifies trends or systemic issues related to caretaker misconduct and other rule/legal violations and communicates concerns to the appropriate leadership.
  • Supports corrective action processes by providing factual investigative findings while maintaining investigative independence.
  • Maintains compliance and training requirements with safety, security, PREA, and other applicable regulatory or accreditation standards.
