About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Facility Inspector is responsible for conducting facility condition inspections and recording deficiencies for different types of buildings. Employees in this job class inspect various interior common areas, building mechanical components, building exteriors, building parking lots and building landscaping.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in facility maintenance or experience in a facilities service skill (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc.);
  • Technical skills in the contracts line of business (facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, custodial, food service, etc.);
  • Computer skills, including word processing, PowerPoint, Excel andindustry based CMMS software program(s);
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;
  • Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
  • Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;
  • Effective customer service skills;
  • Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
  • Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
  • Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common-sense skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect existing buildings and premises for damage, change of use, occupancy, current condition and/or compliance with applicable standards.
  • Inspect crawl spaces, roofing, foundation, concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plastering, routine plumbing, heating and electrical, components, installed equipment and other building system elements.
  • Validate and confirm facility maintenance repairs performed IAW applicable terms and conditions.
  • Initiate Service Orders or Work Orders to repair all deficiencies discovered during inspections. Inspections shall be both visual and operational and may require some minor removal and reinstallation of items to complete.
  • Maintain accurate and complete files and reports regarding inspection and findings.
  • Attend and participate in meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of building inspection and plans examination.
  • Read, interpret, and perform takeoffs of: building plans, statements of work, specifications, and building codes.
  • Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine existing conditions and detect deviations from standards.
  • Make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
