This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience in facility engineering and management while contributing to the efficiency and safety of our facility operations. The intern will work closely with the Facility Engineering team to support maintenance, design, and improvement projects, ensuring optimal functionality of systems and processes within the facility.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Facility Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles, building systems, and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other productivity tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in technical scenarios

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interest in facility operations, engineering systems, and project management
  • Proficiency in software tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent design programs (preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of facility systems, including HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to support the design and implementation of facility improvement projects.
  • Monitor building performance and energy efficiency, proposing solutions to optimize operational costs and sustainability.
  • Conduct research and gather data for facility-related projects, such as equipment upgrades or space utilization improvements.
  • Create and update engineering documentation, including CAD drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and reports.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs by tracking schedules, reporting issues, and assisting with repairs.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations within the facility.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning discussions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Facility Engineering team.
