About The Position

Facility Design Technical Lead The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced and driven Facility Design Technical Lead to lead the mechanical design and development efforts for a cutting-edge aerospace test facility. You will be responsible for overseeing mechanical subsystem design, managing subcontracted engineering teams, and ensuring timely, high-quality technical delivery in support of overall program objectives. What You'll Work On: Lead the mechanical design effort across all facility subsystems, including high-pressure air systems, thermal management infrastructure, structural components, and test interface hardware. Manage and coordinate design subcontractors, providing technical direction and ensuring design quality, cost efficiency, and schedule adherence. Identify and resolve critical-path technical design challenges, facilitating rapid problem solving and ensuring alignment with system requirements. Serve as the technical point of contact for mechanical design with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, and partners. Work closely with the Program Manager to ensure mechanical subsystem development aligns with facility-level requirements and program milestones. Ensure that all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, safety regulations, and performance specifications. Prepare and review technical documentation, including system requirements, design packages, technical memos, and risk assessments. Support design reviews for CoDR, PDR, and CDR, configuration control, and system integration planning. Join us. The world can't wait.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical or Aerospace engineering, including design leadership roles
  • Experience in aerospace ground test facilities or complex mechanical systems, mechanical system design, pressure systems, and thermal or fluid systems
  • Experience with Robust Design practices, including enhancing ease of manufacturing
  • Experience managing subcontractors and external design teams and coaching, mentoring, and developing junior engineers
  • Experience in CAD, FEA, and mechanical simulation tools such as SolidWorks or ANSYS, and with ASME, API, or MIL standards as they relate to mechanical systems design
  • Knowledge of systems engineering
  • Knowledge of critical path analysis, design iteration, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the DoD or other federal aerospace test and evaluation programs
  • Experience with prototype and “one-off” design development and solution delivery
  • Experience in facility commissioning, integration, and operations
  • Experience with requirements validation and verification
  • Experience with risk management
  • Possession of excellent communication and leadership skills
  • PMP or Systems Engineering Certification
