About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The Division of Health Service Regulation oversees medical, mental health and adult care facilities, emergency medical services, and local jails, ensuring that people receiving care are safe and receive appropriate care, and that medical buildings are built only when needed. This position is located in the Mental Health Licensure Branch of the Mental Health Licensure and Certification Section. The primary duties involve functioning as a consultant to conduct inspections of mental health facilities that provide care and treatment to adults and children with mental health, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use problems. The role includes conducting initial licensure, complaint, and routine inspections to determine compliance with State licensure statutes and rules. The employee must be able to work independently as well as within a team. This position is home-based in the Central Piedmont region of North Carolina and requires extensive travel to facilities throughout Central Piedmont North Carolina and other regions statewide. Successful applicants should reside in Durham, Alamance, Stanly, Randolph, or a contiguous county. During training weeks, travel and assignment to facilities in other counties may be required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a health, human service, or educational related field from an appropriately accredited institution
Three years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must possess and maintain a current NC driver’s license
Must be available to travel throughout the state 3-4 days per week, including overnight and occasional weekends
