About The Position

Job Summary : The Facility Assistant will support the registered nurses in the operating room setting. Duties include patient care within their scope of practice, housekeeping, stocking, and other needs as determined by the manager. Essential Job Functions : Keeping the OR areas, including the workstations and the restrooms, clean during work hours. Removing soiled linens from work areas and folding and restocking linens as necessary. Restocks and cleans individual nursing stations. Performs miscellaneous duties under the direction of the registered nurse. May deliver basic, limited patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. Cleans and straightens secondary OR areas, including tank room, equipment room, and lounge. Practices cost containment measures. Cleans and remakes gurneys in a timely manner. Cleans receivers on the phones and countertops in Pre-op and PACU. Restocks supplies in Pre-op and PACU and OR as needed. Other Functions : Specific Tasks and Responsibilities : Place linen and garbage bags in each room. Make OR beds (ensure there is full O2 tank, clean bed sheet) Change Aerobiotix air filters x2 (rooms 1 & 4). Check and record Blanket/Fluid warmer temperature. Help set up equipment in each room. Bring a full large air tank for dental procedures. Bring O2, CO2, or a large air tank in the OR as needed. Give AM/PM and Lunch Breaks to other Facility Assistants Replenish Fluid Bags (NACL, Sterile Water) as needed. Replenish Fluid/Blanket warmer as needed. Bring O2, CO2, or a large air tank as needed. Put away equipment after each use (unless needed for the following case). Help stage the rooms for the next day cases. Empty Garbage cart between 11:30am to 12:30pm (must prioritize turnovers first). Empty Garbage cart before end of your shift (between 4pm -4:30pm) Clean up doctors’ lounge after 1400. Plug in the doctors’ laptop at the end of the day. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have current CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • A high level of awareness of patient needs, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to stand and walk eight to eleven hours per shift with up to five hours without a break.
  • Able to perform repetitive movements such as bending, stooping, squatting, overhead reaching, kneeling, balancing, pushing, and pulling gurneys both occupied and unoccupied.
  • Able to push and pull both occupied and unoccupied wheelchairs.
  • Has the ability to lift, carry and hoist overhead up to forty pounds.
  • Must have knowledge of basic safety and proper body mechanics.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective gear such as goggles, face mask, gloves and gowns.
  • Must be able to tolerate marked changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Able to perform repetitive hand movements from light to strong grasping and fine dexterity.
  • Able to perform repetitive foot movements.
