About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Facility Architectural Assessor. The candidate will be responsible for conducting condition assessments in City-owned buildings. The selected candidate will assess the physical condition of the exterior and interior building components and the building's overall code compliance, sustainability and resiliency and outline immediate and potential problem areas so that informed decisions can be made, and priorities can be set. Coordinate and advise on the ADA surveys being performed simultaneously to synthesize findings. Candidate will record existing conditions; provide code and local laws analysis and prepare facility assessment reports suitable for sponsor agency budget planning purposes.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required.
  • Six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as an administrative architect.
  • A valid motor vehicle driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of building construction methods, materials, and assemblies, especially older 19th and 20th century buildings.
  • Expertise in forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues.
  • Up-to-date understanding of construction and material costs.
  • At least 3 years of prior relevant field inspection experience.
  • Physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, and basements within multi-level buildings.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing effectively.
