About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a dependable and hardworking Facilities Worker I to support our Facilities team. This role is responsible for maintaining hospital grounds and assisting with basic building maintenance, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties include landscaping, snow removal, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and general facility support. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, safety-focused, and comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or related field preferred
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, and groundskeeping strongly preferred
  • Current AHA BLS (Heartsaver) certification required
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment
  • Basic mechanical and maintenance skills
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Basic computer skills (email, work order systems)

Nice To Haves

  • Life Safety training preferred (may be obtained on the job)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain hospital grounds including lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, and parking areas
  • Mow, trim, edge, weed, plant, fertilize, and water landscaped areas
  • Remove litter and maintain clean exterior spaces
  • Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, plowing, and applying de-icing materials
  • Assist with basic carpentry, painting, and minor building repairs
  • Support preventative maintenance tasks and facility upkeep
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed
  • Maintain and complete work orders in the Facilities system
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, blowers, trimmers, and hand tools
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment (oil changes, blade sharpening, minor repairs)
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and properly
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Follow all safety protocols and infection prevention practices
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with urgent facility needs
  • Document work completed and track maintenance activities
  • Communicate issues, repairs, and needs to supervisor
  • Interact professionally with staff, patients, vendors, and visitors
